Homeless Backpack Beds

To help people living without shelter on the Sunshine Coast, HTK Church actively fundraises for Homeless Backpack Beds and Sleeping Bags.

Our program began in 2024 with our Janet Dyke creating the HTK Social Welfare fundraiser.

The Backpack Beds ($144 each) and Sleeping Bags ($35 each) are purchased from the Backpack Bed for Homeless charity.

Their lightweight, well-designed products provide lifesaving emergency shelter, dignity and health benefits.

Additional costs for freight to the Sunshine Coast are covered, after which our team deliver the beds and sleeping bags to our charity partners for distribution to those in need.

We partner with the Maroochydore, Nambour and Caloundra Community Centres as we feel that these centres are best placed to identify individuals requiring assistance.

As of July 2025, our program has distributed 56 Backpack Beds and 12 Fire Retardant Sleeping Bags within the Sunshine Coast community.

Funding primarily relies on private donations and bi-annual Bunnings Sausage Sizzles.
Volunteers are welcome to assist at these events.

How to use the QR code

  • Hold phone camera above the QR code

  • A message will come up saying Fundraise.backpackbeds

  • Click on the message and you will be taken directly to the HTK Social Welfare account. 
    There will be the name of Janet Dyke attached to the HTK Social Welfare page.
    Janet is one of the leaders of the HTK Parish Council.

  • Click on Donate.

  • Enter the amount you wish to donate.

  • Fill in your name, email address etc. 
    You can opt to leave a message. 
    It would be great if that was completed with the name of the church so we can send a thank you.

  • You can also opt to make the donation anonymous if desired.

  • Click Next and you will be asked to complete your Credit/Debit Card details. There is a fee of $2.75

  • You will then be given the option to share this on Facebook.  Obviously, this is optional.

  • You will then be emailed your Tax Receipt within a short period of time.


In addition to Backpack Beds, HTK Church have a separate activity which is the provision of a hot breakfast each Tuesday morning to those in the community in need.
