Meditation
Christian meditation for Anglicans is a practice that involves focusing on God's word and allowing it to speak to the heart. It is a form of prayer that emphasizes stillness, solitude, and reflection on the scriptures. Unlike Eastern meditation, which aims to empty the mind, Christian meditation seeks to fill the mind with God's word and presence.
Anglican meditation has its roots in the Hebrew tradition of the Bible, with numerous references to prayerful meditation. For example, Joshua 1:8 encourages meditating on the law day and night, and Psalm 119:97 expresses love for God's law as a constant meditation. The practice involves quietly repeating scripture, giving oneself entirely to God, and abandoning outside distractions.
In the Anglican tradition, meditative prayer is seen as a way to allow God to speak to us through His word and Spirit. It is a vital part of the Judeo-Christian heritage and helps believers connect deeply with God's goodness and promises.
